Deer in the headlights
I drove to work in light from a truly spectacular sunrise. As I marvelled how the colours of the autumn leaves looked in this vibrant, surreal light giving a living aura to every cell, suddenly a deer leapt straight out in front of me and the car coming towards me.
How we both missed the magnificent creature is a perfect mystery. The suddenness left me tingling with life to think how close to death the potential outcome could have taken us all.
As I looked in my rear view mirror I saw that there was no carnage, no damage, no loss of life and I breathed deeply. I blessed that creature that risked her life energy to make me acknowledge mine. Electricity still coarsing through me at the memory, I knew that she would be calm, peace ensuing as soon as her feet landed on the grassy bank on the opposite side of the road.
She would not be pondering on the ‘what-if’s’ of such a mistake. She had made a bad decision but unlike me, she possessed no worrier inside her head pointing fingers of derision and blame. She would be able to shake off the bad and focus on the new, a lesson learned by us both that morning.
